From the very beginning of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with rich lore, a colorful mix of characters, and a thrilling plot including divine entities, evil spirits, and dark forces growing in power within Dol-Makjar.
Heads-up: Spoilers for the latest installment of this adventure follow below.
The Soldiers Table Unveiled
The third episode finished on a dramatic pause and introduced the initial group of adventurers who will split off from the main group to embark on their independent quest, apart from the remaining groups.
The combat-focused team consists of the determined fighter (brought to life by Travis), Thimble (the talented performer), Tyranny (Whitney), Wicander (the player), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).
The Reason for Division
With a large ensemble, it was evident from the beginning that maintaining everyone at one table would be impossible.
This explains, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Prelude, connecting the characters’ stories before splitting into three smaller tables: Warriors, Planners, and Explorers.
What Defines the Combat Party
As described by the DM, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who enjoy a classically intense fight-heavy narrative style where non-violent answers are scarce.
Initially, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander might appear unsuited, but the events of episode 3 make it clear why these specific adventurers are best suited for the combat party.
Motivations for Departure
For one thing, the team has a clear idea where to proceed after a violent opening clash with the antagonists.
An old friend of the deceased character—whose demise kicked off the story’s plot—exploited the enemy for his personal gain, invading Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting the character, and swiping all the powerful objects to dispose of.
The traitor then settled his liabilities and ran away to a secure base in the northern region, north of the city, with Cyd close behind.
Personal Motivations
Moreover, each member has a personal reason to depart the urban setting:
- The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, seeks vengeance.
- The adventurer has experience in the northern area and advises that it is a hostile environment.
- The strong character and The healer, having resisted his family’s wishes to kill the target and instead freed him, have no other options.
- However, their position as key figures in House Halovar could help the team enter locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Additionally, The fighter vowed a unbreakable promise to The savior for his rescue and will now accompany him wherever.
Fugitives
Lastly, all of them are hunted by the rulers that govern the setting for a range of causes, making lingering locally dangerous:
- Thimble and The character are known criminals.
- The strong figure and The cleric turned against the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
- Teor is marked for death by House Halovar.
This leaves them little choice but to travel to the remote area in quest for the traitor.
Future Episodes
Based on episode three’s post-show segment, we find out that the combat party won’t be around the following episode, leaving the other eight cast members to round up the Seekers and Strategists parties.
Audiences can look forward to learning which players will be where in the story’s last Overture episode, available to watch on next week.
